Welcome to the website of CGS
NEXT MEETING: MAY 5th
"Local History is . . . Your History." An interesting thought. And in our ancestors' time, it
was their history. Learning about the lives our ancestors lived should include learning about the history of the
time and place as well. Barbara Randall, owner of Randall Ancestry Services and member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, will explain ways this can be done.
Barbara, a teacher in the LA Unified School District, is on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Genealogical Society (host of the annual Jamboree) and, in 2015, will chair the committee that brings that
incredible event to life. She is also a member of the National Genealogical Society, the Genealogical Speakers Guild,
the New England Historical Genealogical Society, the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society, the Central New York
Genealogical Society, and the Marcellus Historical Society. She serves as Leader of the "Legacy Family Tree" User
Group at SCGS, and Registrar of both the San Fernando Valley Chapter of NSDAR and the CSSDAR District VII of NSDAR, working
as Volunteer Genealogist and Consultant. A prolific writer, Barb contributes to Patriot Pathways (the DAR chapter
genealogy newsletter), Legacy Lessons (the Legacy Family Tree User Group newsletter), and has placed FIRST in the
California DAR Women's Issues Career Contest last year. We are fortunate to have her presenting for us on this topic of
history and its role in our ancestors' lives. Download her handout below.

To network, get to know each other, or receive/give genealogical research assistance, "early birds" are
welcome to gather at 6:00pm.
*in the event that the first Monday is a holiday, the meeting is automatically "bumped" to the second Monday.
The society is open to anyone who wishes to research
his/her family history. Monthly programs are offered to assist us in successfully identifying our ancestors of all backgrounds,
cultures, ethnicities, religions, etc.
Members are also encouraged to assist others by presenting a topic that will
be of interest to the rest of the group and participating in the various projects the society hosts.
